4-Day Trip to the Sahara Desert from Marrakech

An adventure and cultural tour of southern Morocco

Feel the freedom beneath the endless sky of the Sahara Desert and enjoy an authentic Berber experience, exploring mountains, historic kasbahs, legendary valleys, and golden dunes with expert local guides.

Day 1: Marrakech–High Atlas–Ait Ben Haddou–Dades Gorges

Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech and departure toward the south of the country.

We’ll cross the High Atlas via the impressive Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), Morocco’s highest mountain pass accessible by road, with scenic stops to enjoy the views.

We will visit the spectacular Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village built of rammed earth and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the setting for films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia.

Lunch on your own in the area, followed by the continuation of the journey through Ouarzazate—known as the gateway to the desert and the “Hollywood of Morocco”—the Skoura Valley, and the Valley of Roses, until we reach the Dades Gorges.

Reception with welcome tea, dinner, and overnight stay at a hotel in the Dades Gorges.

Day 2: Dades–Todra Valley–Erg Chebbi Desert

After breakfast, we’ll set off for the Erg Chebbi Desert, passing through mountainous landscapes, valleys, and semi-desert areas.

We’ll stop in the Todra Valley to enjoy its breathtaking views and take a short hike through the canyon.

We’ll continue on, passing through Berber villages such as Tinjdad and Erfoud.

Lunch on your own and arrival in the afternoon in Merzouga, at the gateway to the desert. The camp team will transport us by 4×4 to the starting point of the camel excursion. Each traveler will mount their camel to venture into the heart of the Sahara.

Dinner, Berber music, and overnight stay in a desert camp, under an unforgettable starry sky and the absolute silence of the Sahara.

Day 3: Desert–Draa Valley–Ouarzazate

We’ll wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the Sahara dunes, one of the most magical moments of the trip.

After breakfast, we’ll return by 4×4 to the meeting point with our guide and head to Ouarzazate, passing through small villages and the spectacular Draa Valley, home to Morocco’s longest river (1,100 km). This valley offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, with green palm groves and mountains in shades of ochre, red, and violet.

Arrival in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon or early evening.

Dinner and overnight stay at a riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 4: Ouarzazate–Telouet–Marrakech

After breakfast, we’ll depart for Marrakech.

En route, we’ll visit the Kasbah of Telouet, the former residence of the powerful El Glaoui family, located on the historic caravan route that connected the Sahara with Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains.

We’ll continue our journey through the Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon. Transfer to your riad or hotel.

End of our trip together in Marrakech.
