This cultural and desert tour from Casablanca is a comprehensive journey through Morocco that combines imperial cities, historic monuments, Atlas Mountains landscapes, oases, Sahara dunes, and unique Berber experiences. Over the course of 9 days, you’ll travel the country from north to south, discovering its cultural diversity, ancient architecture, and the hospitality of its people. An ideal itinerary for travelers seeking history, adventure, photography, culture, and a genuine connection with the desert.
Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca – First taste of Morocco
Meet and greet at the airport or port in Casablanca, the country’s most modern and cosmopolitan city and the economic capital of Morocco. Transfer to the hotel and, depending on the arrival time, begin the first cultural visits.
We will begin with the Hassan II Mosque, one of the most impressive monuments in the Islamic world. Partially built over the Atlantic Ocean, it stands out for its 210-meter minaret—the tallest in the world—and for the richness of its handcrafted decoration: marble, zellige mosaics, cedar wood, and hand-carved stucco.
We will continue with a stroll along the Corniche and Boulevard Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah, iconic seaside areas, and a stop at the famous Café Rick’s, inspired by the legendary film Casablanca. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Casablanca–Rabat–Meknes–Fez
Imperial Cities and Historical Heritage.
After breakfast, we’ll depart for Fez, making important cultural stops along the way.
In Rabat, the country’s administrative capital, we’ll visit the Kasbah of the Oudayas (13th century, a UNESCO World Heritage Site), an ancient fortified complex with white and blue houses overlooking the Atlantic. We will continue to the Hassan Tower, an unfinished 12th-century minaret, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, an architectural gem where King Mohammed V and his son Hassan II are laid to rest.
We continue to Meknes, another of the imperial cities, founded by Sultan Moulay Ismail. Here we will admire Bab Mansour, considered one of the most beautiful and monumental gates in Morocco, a symbol of the splendor of the Alawite Empire.
Arrival in Fez in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional riad, right in the heart of the medina.
Day 3: Fez – Guided tour of Morocco’s cultural capital
A full day dedicated to exploring Fez, the country’s oldest and most spiritual city, considered the cultural and religious capital of Morocco.
The guided tour includes the Royal Palace with its imposing golden gates, the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), and the famous Bab Bou Jeloud, known as the Blue Gate, the main entrance to the medina.
We will explore the medina of Fez el-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an authentic medieval labyrinth with over 9,000 narrow streets. We will visit artisanal pottery workshops, the famous Chouwara Tannery, where hides have been tanned using traditional methods for centuries, and the Attarine Madrasa, a 14th-century Koranic school decorated with exquisite Andalusian art.
We’ll climb up to the Borj Nord to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the city. Free time for lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at the riad.
Day 4: Fez–Ifrane–Ziz Valley–Erg Chebbi Desert
From the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara.
After breakfast, we begin one of the most scenic legs of the journey, heading toward the Sahara Desert.
We stop in Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland” for its Alpine architecture, gardens, and European atmosphere. We continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, home to the famous Barbary macaques, and the city of Midelt, a former mining area between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains.
We head south through the spectacular Ziz Valley, a canyon dotted with palm groves and kasbahs, one of the most photographed landscapes in southern Morocco. We pass through Erfoud and Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet and a key stop on the caravan routes.
Arrival in the afternoon in Merzouga, at the gateway to the Erg Chebbi Desert, famous for its golden dunes that reach up to 200 meters in height. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel near the dunes.
Day 5: Merzouga – Nomadic culture and a night in the desert
An authentic Berber experience.
After breakfast, we’ll take a 4×4 excursion through the desert, visiting the village of Khamlia, inhabited by descendants of African slaves. Here we’ll enjoy Gnawa music—hypnotic rhythms featuring drums and metal castanets—and learn about their history and ancestral traditions.
We’ll explore desert areas, ancient nomadic settlements, and volcanic landscapes. In the afternoon, one of the most magical experiences of the trip begins: a camel ride at sunset across the dunes of the Sahara, as the sun bathes the sand in golden and reddish hues.
Arrival at the nomadic camp in the desert, traditional Berber dinner, music around the fire, and a night under one of the most breathtaking starry skies in the world.
Day 6: Desert–Rissani–Todra Valley–Dades Gorges
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes—an unforgettable experience. Breakfast, then departure westward.
Visit the traditional market in Rissani, an authentic, off-the-beaten-path spot where local tribes gather. We continue to Tinghir and the impressive Todra Valley, famous for its palm groves and its canyon with vertical walls up to 300 meters high, ideal for hiking and photography.
We continue to the Dades Gorges, passing through mountain landscapes, adobe kasbahs, and spectacular rock formations. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in the valley.
Day 7: Dades–Ouarzazate–Ait Ben Haddou–Marrakech
Kasbahs, cinema, and the High Atlas.
After breakfast, we head to Kelaat M’Gouna, known as the Valley of Roses, where natural perfumes and cosmetics are produced. We pass through the Skoura oasis, famous for its kasbahs and palm groves.
Arrival in Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert” and Morocco’s film industry hub. We continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a spectacular fortified adobe ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the setting for films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones.
Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with stops to enjoy the panoramic views. Arrival in Marrakech. Dinner and overnight stay in a riad.
